“We are in a very complicated situation. The problem is the Lord Antauro Humala“said the national secretary of the political party National Alliance of Workers, Farmers, University Students, Reservists and Workers (ANTAURUS), Ruben Ramos.
And there is no shortage of reasons to worry. On January 28, the Permanent Supreme Civil Chamber of the Supreme Court will review the appeal of this group, after the Judiciary declared it illegal in the first instance because of the antidemocratic expressions of the ethnocacerista leader Antauro Humala.
If the verdict is ratified, ANTAURO will lose its registration in the Registry of Political Organizations (ROP) and its electoral aspirations will be left in limbo.
In his campaign, Humala made statements that generated a stir and caused the Prosecutor’s Office to demand that the party be declared illegal. ANTAURUS Interviewed by The Republicat the time, ratified its intention to shoot former presidents accused of corruption and withdraw our country from the Pact of San José.
And while the controversy intensified, internal frictions also appeared.
Ruben Ramos, Antaurist secretary, was a UPP congressman.
ANTAURO Party asked him to moderate his speech
“In July of last year we sent him a letter asking him to clarify that when he expresses himself, it is in his personal capacity and is not involving a party proposal,” Ramos recalled. “He is my friend, but his political actions must be according to what is written in the ideology,” he said.
The national secretary alleges that Humala’s statements do not coincide with the party’s program and that he is just another member of the 36 thousand members that A.NT.AURO has. He hopes, therefore, that the Judiciary takes that explanation into account and rule in favor of the appeal. “A person like Antauro is not going to determine our future,” he added.
Ramos announced that, if the ruling is ratified, he will appeal to the Constitutional Court (TC) and international bodies, but he is also aware that this takes time. “We may not be enough, but the world is not ending,” he said. It doesn’t stop him from dreaming about participating in the general elections of 2026.
Antauro Humala also fought with the president of the party
The brawls that took place also involve the outgoing president of this party, Marco Vizcarraknown as “Paiche”. The relationship between Vizcarra and Humala would be broken. “I said this was going to happen, but no one believed me. I told him that the law is like that and that we are part of a political party, but he told me that it is nonsense. I realize that political immaturity is rubbed off,” says the former leader to blame his former friend for the “Andahuaylazo.”
In mid-October of last year, Vizcarra announced the expulsion of Humala because he considered that his presence generated divisions. But it was too late. Two weeks later, in the first instance, the Judiciary ordered the group to be declared illegal.
Vizcarra’s announcement had no effect on the party and did not appease the judicial system either. Humala’s expulsion depended on other instances. “We have done the entire process and it came to the Disciplinary Court and they did not remove it,” he said.
Ramos responded that this decision is not up to “Paiche”, but to the party organizations: “They – Humala and Vizcarra – have not respected the party’s rules.”
Both, since August, have had disciplinary proceedings against them. The difference is that Humala continues as a member, while on December 23 of last year, Vizcarra stepped aside to join the ranks of Hernando De Sotowho promotes the Progresemos party.
“Paiche” now calls Humala caviar for his rapprochement with Together for Peru (JP)a party that, for the moment, is the strongest ally of the ethnocacerista leader.
Ramos also criticizes a possible coalition with Together for Peru. “The National Executive Committee (CEN) has not yet approved it. One makes alliances to add, not to subtract. Does that game add or subtract?” he asked himself.
The leader of Together for Peru, the congressman Roberto SanchezDespite these criticisms, he is optimistic about Humala’s electoral career and hopes that the ANTAURO party will remain in place for the 2026 elections.
This newspaper asked him if he evaluates that the ethnocacerista leader is a candidate for the Senate with Together for Peruin case the illegality of the ANTAURO party is ratified and responded: “We are convinced that it will be positive (the ruling in the second instance) from the doctrine and democratic institutions and national and international jurisprudence.”
He did not clarify if he will take it into account in his list for the Congress bicameral.
In statements to the YouTube channel “Pitucos Marrones”, Humala responded that in the political party law “there is the chapter on alliances and the chapter on integrations, we have the brothers of Together for Peru.”
Allies. Roberto Sánchez, leader of JP, and Antauro Humala.
The lawyer on electoral issues, José Villalobos, explained that if the ANTAURO party is declared illegal, the ethnocacerista leader would not be able to run for Parliament with JP either. “He should have resigned on December 23 – the date on which the deadline to disaffiliate from a political organization to run for another – expired – and I understand that he did not do so. Therefore, he would be disqualified,” he said.
The outlook looks complicated. The Republic searched for comments Antauro Humalabut at the closing of this note there was no response.
Guillermo Bermejo rejects alliance with ANTAURO
The presidential candidate of the Voces del Pueblo political party, Guillermo Bermejomarks distance from ethnocacerism. “We have not spoken with Antauro Humala and their proposals for murder of authorities, xenophobia and homophobia seem to us to be inapplicable, superficial and close to fascism and, therefore, contrary to the principles founded on VP,” he responded.
