Another tourist dies on the Inca Trail to Machu Picchu

Less than a week after the death of an English tourist in a camp belonging to the network of Inca Trails to Machu Picchu, another foreign tourist perishes on this road, this time on the route that leads to the area called Wiñay Huayna.

Last Wednesday, the Cusco authorities reported on the death of the Danish visitor identified as Peter Lemche, who would have suffered a decompensation and subsequent loss of vital signs.

“The tourist was located by police personnel in the vicinity of the Inca Trail, trying to be revived by Sernanp staff and his partner; In addition, medical personnel from the O2 Clinic appeared at the scene, who carried out resuscitation work with a negative result, confirming the death of the tourist,” Police said.

The sad event was brought to the attention of the Machupicchu Mixed Provincial Prosecutor’s Office which ordered the evacuation of the body to the Machupicchu police station, being transferred on a highway owned by the Fetransa company.

The Police reports that, according to the initial inquiries, the official tourist guide José Quispe indicated that the tourist left kilometer 104, arriving at the Quebrada Wiñay Wayna where he showed heart problems, being assisted with the support of personnel from the Ministry of Culture with a negative result.

The Prosecutor’s Office mentioned that the body will be transferred to the province of Calca to Legal Medicine for the necropsy of law and subsequent transfer to Cusco and delivery to their relatives.

FACT:

– Last Thursday morning, a foreign tourist was found dead in Camp 82 located at Kilometer 82 of the Ollantaytambo – Machu Picchu railway, he was later identified as Thomas Butler (66) who was found lifeless inside his tent, the case is under investigation.
