Another femicide is reported: Man kills a woman with a machete in the North Caribbean

Raquel Benigna Orozco Blandón, 36, is the new victim of femicide in Nicaragua. The woman was murdered with machetes by her partner José Noel Jarquín López, in the Umbila community of the municipality of Rosita, North Caribbean of Nicaragua.

According to official media, the National Police went to the scene of the crime to carry out the proper investigations. The incident occurred in the afternoon of Saturday, September 3.

It is known that the femicide fled after committing the crime and the authorities have not yet confirmed if they managed to capture him. The victim leaves two girls aged six and nine in the orphanage.

Citizens of the area detailed that Raquel Orozco Blandón ended up with her left hand severed, when trying to defend herself from the machetes that Jarquín López gave her, from whom she constantly received mistreatment.

Raquel Orozco Blandón became the 43rd victim of femicide in Nicaragua so far in 2022, according to figures recorded by the Catholic organization for the Right to Decide.

Until August 31, the feminist entity reported 42 femicides in Nicaragua, of which 37 murders were in national territory and five abroad.

Of the authors of these 42 criminal acts, there are three cases under investigation, 12 cases in judicial proceedings, 15 unpunished cases, three in suspended judicial proceedings and four sentenced at the national level.

The feminists’ report indicates that of the acts that have been committed against Nicaraguans abroad, two are in judicial proceedings and three are unpunished.

So far this year, 110 frustrated femicides have also been registered. According to the organization, these figures warn that women remain unprotected against their aggressors.
