Delgado, 39, left Cuba for Nicaragua and from there began his journey to the southern border of the United States, the same route that hundreds of thousands of Cubans have taken over the last year.

Full Swing He reports that the third baseman from Matanzas participated in 15 National Series in Cuba. Although he stood out mostly with the Matanzas team, with which he was crowned national champion in 2020, he was also a reinforcement of the Villa Clara and Ciego de Ávila teams.

The specialized site highlights that in 3,179 at-bats in Cuba, Delgado had 1,038 hits: 43 home runs, 134 doubles and 17 triples, in addition to driving in 477 runs and scoring another 500.

His most outstanding season was 2017, in the 56th National Series, when he won the batting title with a .403 average. In March of that same year he joined the Cuban team that participated in the fourth edition of the World Baseball Classic.

Over the last year, countless Cuban players from different categories have left the island with the aim of joining circuits that make it easier for them to sign with Major League organizations. The difficult economic situation of the Caribbean country has also forced others with less prospects to flee in search of a new life.
