A Cuban who worked as an immigration officer at the Santiago de Cuba airport stowed away in Miami at the end of October posing as a crew member on a Swift Air flight. Since then he has been detained by US immigration authorities in South Florida.
Rafael García Rodríguez, 27, alerted this Wednesday to the Univision network the possibility of being deported, which would mean, he said, his immediate detention by the Cuban authorities.
“I worked one day yes and one day no, the other [de otro turno] They didn’t know me, I peeled short, short, I put on a mask and nobody knew me, ”he explained.

He managed to get on the flight wearing a green vest with the Swift Air logo, with a bag with soft drinks and bottles of water that, he said, international crews usually offer Cuban ground personnel.
According to what he said, he was not identified due to difficulties in the surveillance cameras. He will now be brought before a judge, to whom he will explain the possibilities of going to jail if he is returned to Cuba.
García Hernández is the second stowaway in six months to escape the island aboard a plane that flies regularly between the United States and Cuba.
The other, Yuniel CastilloHe is facing deportation proceedings.
