A new instance of the Maleficent operation, which persecutes criminal groups that are dedicated to the manufacture and sale of drugs and arms trafficking, culminated in the prison sentence of 15 people.
The research carried forward by the fiscal of Rosario, Sandra Freitas, concluded after the 15 defendants agreed to hold an abbreviated procedure. The sentences corresponded to the crimes of commercializing, supplying, negotiating and manufacturing drugs, among others.
The people remained in detention since last Tuesday, when the Police carried out up to 25 raids in different departments of the country. Penalties for offenders range from 18 months to three and a half years in prison. Among those sentenced there are people of Uruguayan, Argentine, Brazilian, German and Italian nationality.
During the operation, carried out in Montevideo, Canelones, Rivera and Maldonado, the agents seized different varieties of drugs. Among the substances were hashish, LSD, marijuana, psychoactives and BHO (butane hashish oil). Likewise, two weapons, butane gas tanks, ammunition, three cars, 6,000 dollars and about 300 thousand pesos were confiscated.
Until now, Maleficent accumulates 52 people convicted of the aforementioned crimes. This is a coordinated investigation between the Prosecutor’s Office and the Police at the national level, which works to dismantle a criminal organization that operates with the sale of drugs and weapons mainly in the departments of Montevideo, Canelones and Colonia.
