Another 13 Cuban rafters detained upon arrival in Florida

The United States Coast Guard detained this Monday 13 Cuban rafters who had arrived in Key West, Florida, the previous afternoon.

As reported by the agent Thomas G. Martin on his Twitter account, the migrants arrived in a “homemade boat.” The publication does not provide information on the identity of the rafters, but it does publish a photograph of an aged boat with registration number HA 50230F.

In a second event, the US Coast Guard reported that 12 Cuban rafters were secured after making landfall in the Florida Keys. The migrants arrived in a wooden fishing boat, reported the officer Thomas G. Martin. The arrest of the natives of the Island occurred after the officers were warned about “maritime smuggling in Marathon.”

On February 28, the US Coast Guard they repatriated 28 Cubans that were intercepted in Cayo Hueso and Cayo Víbora. A total of 842 rafters from the Island have been intercepted since October 1, 2021.

The publication does not offer information on the identity of the rafters, but it does publish a photograph of an aged boat with registration number HA 50230F.

In early February, the United States Border Patrol detained 10 Cubans after making landfall in the Florida Keys. The rafters arrived in a very precarious boat made of scrap metal and rags.

On that occasion, Petty Officer Third Class José Hernández warned of the danger of sailing on rafts through the Straits of Florida.
