With the issuance of a first decree for comments with 60 categories, the Government launched its strategy to de-index 204 goods, services and activities from the minimum wage, in order to mitigate the impacts of inflation in the pocket of Colombians.

Said normative project will be open for discussions until December 24 at midnight, and It would come into effect from January 1, 2023. The document specifies that these categories will not rise according to the increase in the minimum, which by 2023 will increase by 16%, but rather They will do so in different ranges measured by Tax Value Unit (UVT) which is $42,412.
“The minimum wage is protected regardless of the figure and for this we took five measures to protect it. The first is the deindexation of the elements and activities that are tied to the minimum wage without justification and that allows these first 60 articles, where the co-payments in health, prepaid medicine, notary expenses, fines, registrations, transportation services, among others, are , who were tied to the minimum wage no longer are”, said the Minister of Labor, Gloria Inés Ramírez.

The Minister of Labor assured that a decree will come out next week that will regulate another 120 serviceswhich can be modified by administrative acts such as decrees and resolutions, and the remaining 34 that must go to the National Development Plan.
For his part, the Minister of Finance, José Antonio Ocampo, said that in addition to the two decrees, the Government is eExploring other products and services subject to de-indexing.
“Furthermore, in the Development Plan there will be an article that will create a new core inflation indicator, so that in the future everything that is indexed is indexed to core inflation and not to total inflation, to avoid the problems that we have seen this year due to food inflation”, he indicated.
