Anomalous waves on the Peruvian coast will continue until January 7, the Navy assured

Anomalous waves on the Peruvian coast will extend beyond January 1

The Hydrography and Navigation Directorate of the Peruvian Navy announced that the anomalous waves will continue until January 7.

According to information from Andina, different wave intensities are expected in various areas of the country.

Likewise, on the central coast, which goes from the south of Salaverry to San Juan de Marcona, they anticipate variations in the intensity of the anomalous waves.

On the other hand, from the south of Salaverry to Chimbote, a light wave is expected, in addition, from Chimbote to San Juan de Marcona, the waves will be moderate before reducing to light.

Regarding the southern coast, which goes from the south of San Juan de Marcona to Tacna, the waves will be light until January 4.

They also point out that the most affected areas will be open or semi-open beaches, facing northwest and west.

The National Emergency Operations Center (COEN) points out that the new moon lunar phase increases the level of the tides, which identifies the impact of waves on the Peruvian coasts. This phenomenon occurs when the gravitational attraction between the Earth, the Sun and the Moon is at its highest point, this generates stronger tides than usual.
