In the presentation of his first report of the Consumer Price Index (CPI) of 2023, The National Administrative Department of Statistics (Dane) revealed that the annual variation of inflation in January 2023 was 13.25%.

This figure is 6.31 percentage points higher than that reported in the same period of the previous year.when it was 6.94%.
For its part, the monthly variation for January was 1.78%, a figure that falls within the range of analyst and market expectations.
According to Dane, the monthly behavior of the CPI was mainly explained by the monthly variation of the Transportation and Food and non-alcoholic beverages divisions.
The greatest variations occurred in the Transportation (3.98%) and Restaurants and hotels (3.11%) divisions.

For his part, the annual variation (13.25%) was marked by the behavior of the Food and non-alcoholic beverages divisions and Housing, water, electricity, gas and other fuels.
The Food and non-alcoholic beverages division registered an annual variation of 26.18% and was the one with the highest annual variation.
In January 2023, the highest price increases were registered in the subclasses: arracacha, yams and other tubers (106.83%), onion (101.51%) and cassava for home consumption (63.17%). The lowest price increases were reported in the subclasses: raw brown sugar for home consumption (4.28%), mineral water (with and without gas) for home consumption (9.36%) and concentrates to prepare soft drinks ( 9.52%).
On the other side of the scale is the Information and Communication division, which registered an annual variation of 0.20%, and was the lowest contribution in the year.
According to Dane, in January 2023, the highest price increase was registered in the subclass: mobile telephony equipment, similar and repair (2.93%) and the subclass fixed and mobile communication services and internet provision no I present variations to two decimal digits.
