The government’s announcement on the mandatory spending cut package will be scheduled for next week, with no specific date. The final meeting between President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva and the ministers to define the measures took place this afternoon. After about three hours of meetingthe ministers left without speaking to the press.
Palácio do Planalto did not say what day the announcement would take place. This week, the Minister of Finance, Fernando Haddad, said that the measures will only be announced after President Lula met the presidents of the Chamber, Arthur Lira, and the Senate, Rodrigo Pacheco, to inform them of the actions.
After a week of daily meetings, Haddad returned to São Paulo this evening and will only return to Brasília on Monday (11). The Minister of Planning and Budget, Simone Tebet, will remain in the federal capital over the weekend.
Without advancing any measures, Haddad stated, on Wednesday (6), that the package will consist of a proposed amendment to the Constitution and a complementary bill. According to him, the measures depended on two legal details to be decided by President Lula.
