Announcement of mass layoffs generates tension in the Foreign Ministry

Days of tension are lived these days in the offices of the Colombian Foreign Ministry on account of the departure of officials, after merit contests advanced by the Civil Service Commission.

The situation is so complex that the Minister of Foreign Relations, Álvaro Leyva, himself referred to this fact, which he described as unfair and asked that the law be reviewed.

“The Foreign Ministry does not throw out its officials just like that. Less those who work with boldness and loyalty ”, wrote in a trill.

The situation would affect some 170 workers of the entity.

For the president of the union of employees of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Francisco Burchardt Melo, said that immediate actions must be taken to safeguard the rights of workers and listen to the proposals that this organization has in order to maintain job stability.

Meanwhile, the National Civil Service Commission defended merit contests because they are adjusted to comply with the Constitution and the Law.
