According to a note from the Prensa Latina (PL) agency, from November 14 to 20, the Meeting to Know the Habanera will take place in the Cuban capital, dedicated to one of the most emblematic and universal Cuban genres.
Its headquarters will be the Eusebio Leal Spengler House Museum and the House of Green Tiles. The event is part of the activities for the 503 years founding of the town of San Cristóbal de La Habana.
Organized by the Cuban Institute of Music and the National Museum of Music, the theoretical meeting approaches the habanera as a genre that contributed to the formation and definition of the national cultural identity.
A special concert by singer-songwriter Liuba María Hevia, one of its most outstanding cultivators, has been scheduled for the occasion, accompanied by the Sonantas Habaneras Orchestra under the direction of Jesús Ortega.
The event also incorporates other formations that keep the habanera alive, among them the Entrevoces Choir, directed by the teacher and National Music Award, Digna Guerra.
A tribute to Dr. Eusebio Leal is announced. The activity has the support of the Provincial Department of Culture and the magazine Opus Havana.
