For the first time it will be held this year in Cerro Largo
Law 20,340, dated September 19, 2024, establishes in a Sole Article February 3 as the date of commemoration and tribute for the department of Cerro Largo.
This resolution of the Legislative Branch – Chamber of Senators and House of Representatives meeting in the General Assembly – was highlighted in the last Session of the Departmental Board last year.
“Thank you for the work, study and research that has been carried out since 2018, first of all, to the Historians and History Professors Germán Gil and Marcos Hernández who spent time reviewing and studying documents from the time; to Professor Tania González and Professor Matías Borba who contributed their vision on the date” exposed the Teacher Cristina Cardozo.
“A special recognition to the Historian Dr. Ana Ribeiro, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Culture, to our National Representatives Senator Sergio Botana for presenting the Law in the Senate and to the Representative Dr. Carmen Tort who gave a brilliant presentation in the Lower House” thanked the Mayor of the National Party. “Thank you and acknowledge the officials of the Departmental Board of Cerro Largo, especially Dr. Mario Márquez, the Notary Macarena Rebollo and the officials Lourdes Franco, Silvana Noble and Laura Sánchez. Also to the current members of the Education, Culture, Nomenclature and Human Rights Commission of this Departmental Board, Professor Waldemar Magallanes, Susana Escudero, Mónica Peña, Javier Porto and Lilian Olano, as well as the Secretary of said Commission, Mónica González ” he added.
Cardozo requested that the rule, which establishes February 3 as the founding date of the department of Cerro Largo, be included in the Departmental Digest.
TOTAL WATER EMERGENCY
The Departmental Legislator of the National Party also urgently requested a declaration of total water emergency for Arroyo Conventos.
He based his request on the following aspects: “a- The dam has been decapitated on both banks of the stream, both on the Zorrilla Park side and on the opposite side. The latter is a property owned by OSE that consists of more than 10 hectares and was acquired by the then Vice President of the Entity, Villanueva Saravia Pinto, from the Gianola family in order to build the OSE Purification Plant there. Later the organization decided to build it in the current location, in front of Paseo de la India.” he remembered. “OSE, when replacing the water pipe that comes from La Toma del Tacuarí, had to make the entrance which covered the head of La Presa in front of Zorrilla Park” illustrated by Maestro Cristina Cardozo.
“Consequently, the water opened its own gap, causing very significant wear and tear on the head of the OSE property, the former property of the Gianola family.” he pointed out.
“This has translated into an increase in the volume of water escape in front of the city of Melo with the consequence of the total lowering of the Arroyo Conventos” reported.
“It was evident last month that the silting of the stream, which is more than 30 meters wide and whose length is incalculable, as an example, stones appeared in the area of the Highway Bridge.” he pointed out.
The Mayor of the National Party warned that this represents an extremely important environmental impact with unestimated consequences. “This is why I urgently request the declaration of a total water emergency for Arroyo Conventos” he reiterated.
Cristina Cardozo requested that a copy of her words be sent to the President of the Republic, to the Minister of Transportation and Public Works, to Hydrography of the MTOP, to the Ministry of the Environment, to the National Congress of Councilors, to the National Congress of Mayors, to Senator Sergio Botana, to the three National Representatives for the department and to the Environment Commission of the Departmental Board.
