ANM resumes control of Pine mining projects in Antioquia

ANM resumes control of Pine mining projects in Antioquia

The National Mining Agency (ANM) reported that, through Resolution 104 of January 13, 2023, resumed”the function of inspection, monitoring and control of mining titles declared as Projects of National Interest (PIN) and Projects of National and Strategic Interest (PINE), which are in the jurisdiction of the department of Antioquia“.

(See: The story of the town that will be demolished to expand a coal mine).

Control of the Pine mining projects rested with the Government of Antioquia, through Resolution 181492 of August 30, 2012 of the Ministry of Mines and Energy and, “Subsequently, on the occasion of the issuance of Law 2056 of 2020, the ANM, through Resolution 624 of December 29, 2020, decided to delegate the control function, which is now its own, to the Government of Antioquia“.

Álvaro Pardo, president of the ANM, he said that regaining control of the Pine in Antioquia was necessary.

(See: In mining there is a 13% female participation).

Reassuming control in the Pine of Antioquia will serve to unify guidelines, criteria and policies for the inspection, monitoring and control of these projects, in a similar way to the other 45 PIN and PINE projects that are managed in the entity”he claimed.

With this change, the Secretariat of Mines of the Government of Antioquia it will continue working in the delegation of mining contracting and titling, as well as supervising, monitoring and controlling mining titles that are not declared as Pine.

(See: Value of mining exports will reach a record in 2022).

Other functions that will fall to the Secretariat would be: exploration and exploitation work that is carried out in recognition of private property, temporary authorizations, requests for legalization and mining formalization and other work mechanisms under the protection of a mining title.

We are going to continue working with the Government of Antioquia and the Regional Service Point of the ANM in Medellín, looking for the mining activity to be carried out within the highest environmental and social standards, safeguarding the rights of ancestral mining, shielding small and medium-sized mining, and reorienting the activity towards government programs, such as the energy transition, the industrialization of the country, food security and the construction of public infrastructurePardo added.

(See: Government gambles to create a state mining company).

It is worth remembering that the ANM is the national mining authority and its legal function is to control the exploration and exploitation of mineral resources.
