Anje asks to avoid an excessive increase in wages

Anje pide evitar alza desmesurada en salarios

The unionists hope that at the next meeting of the CNS the employers will present a proposal to the request for a 35 percent increase in wages

The National Association of Young Entrepreneurs (anje) advocated that within the framework of the dialogue on a possible increase in wages, employers, trade unionists and the Government present and discuss the proposals that allow reaching an agreement on an increase that is proportional to the needs and national economic possibilities.

While the trade union sector hopes that at the next meeting of the National Wage Committee (CNS) the employers bring a proposal to the request for a salary increase of 35 percent, and that they do not use the excuse that they are still analyzing the one delivered by the union centrals.

According to the ANJE, a disproportionate increase can create setbacks in the productive apparatus that causes a disincentive in job creation and more inflation.

The president of the ANJE, Jaime Senior, lamented that the debate on the subject becomes “sterile”, since it is fair that workers be recognized for salary adjustments proportional to issues such as inflation. However, he pointed out that the business sector requires that several factors be taken into account that satisfy all sectors.

Senior considered that as a country, the Dominican Republic has been “successful” in achieving consensus on the issue in various scenarios, without forgetting that only the Dominican Medical Association has abandoned the dialogue, which harms its members and users of the health system.

He emphasized that ANJE’s bet is that all sectors can sit down at a dialogue table to do hard work to discuss and achieve those consensuses to improve the Dominican economy.

He expressed that there is a perception that the employer sector does not want to increase wages, which he stated is not true, but rather that what is sought is flexibility that allows adjustment to the measure of the reality of the moment.

On his side, Rafael-Pepe-Abreu, president of the National Confederation of Union Unity (CNUS), said that they hope that the businessmen will be able to present their position, in which it would be the third meeting of the CNS, and that they will not continue with the habit of going to discussions without a proposal.

“They go without proposals, to analyze ours and simply rely on the numbers and the comparisons on inflation that the Central Bank presents. They never present anything, so we hope that this time it won’t be like that,” Abreu explained.

He recalled that an agreement must be reached soon because people are in urgent need of an increase.
