Last Wednesday, during the eviction of the community members who had taken over part of the mining land, there were reports of 18 people injured (14 civilians and 4 police officers), according to the report sent to the Ombudsman’s Office, including Rosa Paniura, 60, who ended up with a diagnosis of severe eye trauma.

The representative of the Executive justified the declaration of a state of emergency in the place of conflict. “The emergency had to be declared because we have dialogued with them, over and over again. It appears that the owners of the area sold their plots of land to the mine, for example, the mayor who is a community member of the area received more than 2 million 600 thousand soles, he also received a house. They all received money, plus a house, ”he maintained.
However, Aníbal Torres stated that the Las Bambas company has a pending debt of 180 hectares for the community members and assured that this must be fulfilled.
“According to the company, it does not deliver them (the land) because the community members do not agree on the place,” he quoted.
Torres pointed out that they will insist that the dialogue table between the community members and the company. However, the conflict is becoming more acute in the Apurimac region.
