The President of the Council of Ministers, Hannibal Torreswas wrong and confused Ukraine with Korea, when referring to the war with Russia that began last February and its economic effects.
During the press conference after the Council of Ministers, Torres Vásquez indicated that there is no shortage of products in Peru, although he admitted that there is an increase in prices and inflation, and attributed it to the military conflict.
“In some countries there is sometimes a shortage in the markets. Is there in Peru? There is not. In Peru we have everything in the markets, there is an increase in prices, yes, there is”he expressed.
“Is there inflation in Peru? Yes, 8.9%, but if we look at the inflation in England, one of the most developed countries in the first world, the inflation is 18%. As a consequence of what? Mainly from the war between Korea and Russia”he added.
Minutes later Hannibal Torres he realized the error and clarified his statements in another of his interventions: “I said the war was with Korea, but it is Ukraine and Russia”.
The prime minister recalled that the country’s economy grew in June by 3.44% and in the budget for next year there is an increase of 9% in the total amount, that is, 17 billion soles more.
“We are growing, that is the truth. It is not that we are solving the entire economic problem, in a short time it will not be done. Compared to the countries around us, we are leading the growth”he underlined.
