ANEP will not require quarantines in educational centers

The Public Health and Education authorities agreed, this Tuesday the 5th, to finalize the provision that forced quarantines when positive cases of COVID-19 were registered in educational centers. The use of masks will be recommended, but not mandatory, with the exception of officials who handle food. The measures arise after the announcement by President Lacalle Pou to end the health emergency.

In the meeting held at the headquarters of the Ministry of Public Health, the head of that portfolio, Daniel Salinas, and the undersecretary, José Luis Satdjian, participated together with the Minister of Education and Culture, Pablo da Silveira, and the president of the Administration. National Public Education (ANEP), Robert Silva.

“With these measures, a period of exception that our education experienced for two years is closing, and it is time to thank teachers, officials, families and students for the responsibility with which they handled themselves,” reflected Da Silveira, at a press conference. , after the meeting.

The hierarch reported that the agreement between the ministries and the ANEP was finalized “within the framework of the decree that is being signed at this time and that ends the health emergency.” In addition, he emphasized: “The great news is that the quarantines in educational centers are over.”

“This means that, except for some measures that are going to be maintained, we are returning to a normal situation in all educational centers as of the Monday after Easter.”

Da Silveira said that, in the case of people with symptoms, it is recommended not to attend classes and, if they do, the use of face masks. If a positive case of COVID-19 is found, the class continues to function normally, she noted. The minister added that “the only case in which the mandatory use of masks is maintained is for officials who handle food.”

“We are reaching the final stage of a path that began in April 2020, when the protocols were approved in the framework of the pandemic,” added Silva. The president of the ANEP called for “continuing to take care of ourselves” and considered the end of the health emergency announced on the afternoon of Monday 4 by President Lacalle Pou to be “good news for the country and education.”

He reported that there will be no more quarantines and, in case of verifying any symptom situation, “it is recommended to go to your doctor” and “the use of face masks in the case of two or more students who have the disease in the same class,” he explained. .

Silva recalled that the use of a mask was no longer mandatory, therefore, only a recommendation for its use is issued. The sanitary recommendations also imply the ventilation of the classrooms. Presidency
