Andy Cruz wins and Cuba reaches 10 successes in World Boxing

Double starter at this level, Cruz of the 63.5 kilograms left the South American De Jesús without options from the first bell with constant hitting and dodging speed, to triumph by a vote of 30-27, 30-27, 30-27, 30 -27 and 30-26 and continue in the fight towards the medals.

For the Antillean boxer this was his second success in the contest, which ensures his presence in the round of eighth finals, after surpassing the Panamanian Jonathan Miniel in the premiere.

Cruz’s victory was combined with the triumph of middleweight Yoenlis Hernández, who defeated Turkish Birol Aygün 5-0 to enter the knockout stage at 75 kilograms.

At the Stark Arena, Hernández reaffirmed the talent of the Cuban School and at the pace of speed and straight shots he beat Aygün by a vote of 30-27, 30-27, 30-26, 29-28 and 30-27, to celebrate two smiles in his first World Cup after beating Brazilian Olympian Wanderlei Pereira in his debut.

At the end of six days of action, Cuba exhibits 10 victories in 12 presentations and keeps six of its eight pugilists in competition.

The Belgrade World Cup began last Monday with the presence of almost 600 boxers from more than 100 nations and will present the champion belts on the posters on November 5 and 6.
