For now, the cocalero assemblyman from Chapare, Andrónico Rodríguez, has enough support to be ratified by his bench as president of the Senate, although his colleague from La Paz and former Minister of Justice, Virginia Velasco (it was learned from sources inside the MAS), was also nominated to take her place and fight for the position.
The fight, fueled by the divergence between two currents within the Deputies, one that openly supports Evo Morales and the other Luis Arce, makes the election of the president of that chamber more complicated, responsibility that fell for two consecutive years on assemblyman Freddy Mamani.
On November 8, President Luis Arce will deliver the message at the end of his second year in office. Before that, the board of directors, commissions, committees and caucus heads of the MAS, as well as of the opponents of the Citizen Community and We Believe, should be defined.
Sources from the ruling party pointed out that Rodríguez’s support is strong, although he has already been in office for two consecutive terms, and that is why the senator Velasco would have the support of some sectors of his party, mainly from the La Paz caucus, to confront him.
Several names are handled in Deputies: Patricio Mendoza, Anyelo Céspedes, Juan José Jáuregui and Héctor Arce were nominated as candidates to take the place of Mamani, in the presidency of Deputies. The issue is handled in reserve, but it was learned that the last week of October will be key to making definitions.
