“We plan to sanction the bill that is very important for all Bolivians between Wednesday and Thursday (of the following week). There is consensus on the MAS bench and they agree that this bill must be approved so that in one way or another we can help our reserves”, declared the president of the senators.
The Government awaits the approval of this project from 2021 which in recent months has become a priority, given the scarce foreign exchange reserves that the country has. The controversial bill was approved in the midst of a scandal in the Chamber of Deputies over the appearance of 19 votes that were decisive and accusations arose among the legislators themselves.
On Wednesday, a list of 12 deputies was released from Comunidad Ciudadana (CC) who would not have complied with sending a photo of their vote on Thursday and Saturday. The head of the CC bench in Potosí, Marina Morales, came out and accused the head of the national bench, Enrique Urquidi of having broken the agreement that they already had as a bench and that was defined in a meeting with the head of the party, Carlos Mesa. .
“The previous week we met with the president of the alliance, Mr. Carlos Mesa, and we concluded vote to reject the gold bill, that was the resolution of that meetingbut unfortunately seconds before the start of the first vote, on Thursday afternoon, it has been arbitrarily changed by the head of the bench and with that vote they have practically benefited the MAS”, launched the deputy.
He said that the five deputies from San Luis Potosí voted against the gold law, but they decided not to send the photo that they were asked for that unilateral decision by Urquidi, who did not summon them to make a final decision.
This, in statements to EL DEBER said that that decision was made in a meeting that took place in the corridors themselves of the Chamber of Deputies because they saw the division of the MAS and among those who were summoned they decided the blank vote and the form of control of that vote. The head of CC was informed of all these decisions.
“We have been in permanent communication with the president of the alliance (Carlos Mesa), of course yes, as in all important decisions, we are always in permanent coordination and communication, of course, always informed, in consultation with our president”, Urquidi said in telephone contact.
For Deputy Morales, it was easier for Urquidi to accuse the CC deputies themselves We have to see if the MAS came together again for this vote as it did for the Ombudsman vote. Urquidi said that the list that was leaked does not mean that the deputies are traitors or defectors and he launched an internal investigation on that point.
