The French financial services agency, Leaders League, added Andrés Ojeda Abogados to its ranking of Uruguayan law firms in the category of economic criminal law for the third consecutive year, which it once again qualified as “Excellent” in its recent update .

This Paris-based institution rates law firms, consultants and auditors in a total of 39 nations. In our country, it publishes the ranking of 15 categories, divided into different specialties.

“For us it is a very important distinction, perhaps even more so than for others, because we are the only company entirely under 40 that makes its way into this ranking”, commented Andrés Ojeda. The lawyer stressed that this is the only qualification of law firms in criminal matters that reaches studies in Uruguay.

This is the third time in a row that they appear in the Leaders League ranking: in the first they entered as “Highly Recommended”, and in the last two as “Excellent”. “Last year they upgraded us and this year they kept us. For us it is an accolade and an invitation to redouble the effort, betting on the best result for the client”, indicated the lawyer.

Ojeda highlighted that the Uruguayan penal system underwent a huge structural reform in 2017 and this new approach favored those who best managed to adapt to the changes.

“In a conservative country like Uruguay that weighs so much the trajectory, we managed to enter a difficult market,” said Ojeda. “The underlying message is that dynamism, drive, closeness and immediacy with the client and obtaining good results are, ultimately, the most important thing. And, beyond being young, I think we have generated a path and set a solid profile”.

The lawyer knows that the recognition of Leaders League is “clearly” a “vote of confidence” regarding the “path and direction” in which the study works, which was “highlighted by a foreign, objective media.”

“Dynamic group of young lawyers”

Ojeda holds a doctorate in Law and Social Sciences from the University of the Republic, and a master’s degree in Criminal Law –graduated with honors– from the Austral University of Buenos Aires. In turn, he has a postgraduate degree in Economic Criminal Law from the University of Montevideo. He is also an aspiring associate professor of criminal law at the University of the Republic. He knew how to be a legislator of the Departmental Board of Montevideo in the period 2010-2015, and has been a legal columnist and collaborator in various radio and television programs.

Ojeda has a doctorate in Law and Social Sciences, and a master’s degree in Criminal Law.

In the analysis that Leaders League makes on its website about the performance of Andrés Ojeda Abogados, it indicates that this firm enjoys a high reputation in Uruguay for having been successfully involved in some of the most sensitive and high-profile criminal cases in the country.

“The team is very active in cases related to money laundering, fraud, illicit enrichment and corruption,” the agency says. “Among the clients are large national and international companies from different sectors,” she adds.

Leaders League highlights that the firm has a “dynamic group of young lawyers with solid experience and a growing reputation”. “They are proud to keep up to date regarding the constant regulatory and jurisprudential changes that are constantly taking place, in order to offer the best solutions to their clients; they are particularly prominent in their communication strategies in high-profile cases. The founding partner Ojeda is an expert in dealing with complex white collar cases and is highlighted by his colleagues as a lawyer with great potential”, he concludes.
