The former president of CNE Andrés Caleca warned that after the “gigantic fraud” in the July 28 elections, the government “passed all the red lines” and Venezuela has traveled “of being a competitive authoritarian regime to a closed authoritarianism regime”
The former president of CNE Andrés Caleca questioned the constitutional reform proposed by Nicolás Maduro, and warned that it aims to “dismantle all democratic glimpses” of the 1999 Constitution.
“The constitutional reform proposed by Maduro seeks to dismantle all democratic glimpse that contains the 1999 Constitution to implement an authoritarian regime,” said the movement leader for Venezuela.
Caleca warned that after the “gigantic fraud” in the July 28 elections, the government “passed all the red lines” and Venezuela has traveled “of being a competitive authoritarian regime to a closed authoritarianism regime.”
He pointed to the ruling party to a “pure and hard dictatorship, with blood and fire, violating all principles, eliminating all democratic glimpses.”
He also considered that the situation in the country is “very difficult”, not only for the destruction of the Republican bases and the violation of popular sovereignty, but also because of the serious economic crisis.
Faced with this scenario, Caleca raised the need for a “democratic resistance” to prevent the dictatorial attempt from stabilizing. This implies strengthening political parties and civil society organizations, despite the difficulties and risks that this entails in the current repressive context.
