The Superintendent of Electricity, Andres Astacioassured that providing the country with a sufficient and high-quality electricity supply is a “full-time” priority of President Luis Abinader.
“The advances cited by the president Luis Abinader for the stability of a supply electric and qualityThey are not for moments, but for full time,” he said.
He also pointed out that the projects put into operation by 2022 almost exceed 100MW those installed in the past management.
“The clearest example of government efforts was recorded in 2022, a time when, as the president rightly said, three renewable energy projects entered the system, far exceeding the megawatts achieved in other efforts,” said Astacio.

In that same order, he stated in the same order as the president about the destiny from beginning to end that the Manzanillo project has been having, unlike what happened with Punta Catalina.
“The construction of the 800 MW thermoelectric plant in Manzanillo, the first thing is that the State will not invest a single penny, much less will it go into debt as happened in the past with Punta Catalina,” he explained.
He also pointed out that the steps taken by the Government have managed to guarantee the contracting of around 90% of the maximum foreseeable demand for electricity in the country for the years 2023 and 2024.
In his speech, the president explained that during 2022, 15 new definitive concession contracts were signed for renewable energy projects that would add a total capacity of 685 MW and an estimated investment of US$820 million.
Astacio highlighted the words offered by Abinader in the framework of his speech before the National Assembly of the National Congress to commemorate the 179th anniversary of National Independence.
