The second fishing season of anchovy managed to generate more than US$1,000 million in the central-north zone of the Peruvian sea, as reported by the National Fisheries Society (snp).
This amount responds to the production of fish oil and fishmeal that the industry plans to export.
“Landings of 1.91 million metric tons (MT) were obtained; that is to say, it was possible to capture 84% of the quota assigned by the Ministry of Production, which was 2.28 million MT”, reported the fishing union.
The high catch level was achieved despite the fact that the season started late on November 28 of last year, something that was commented by the president of the SNP, Cayetana Aljovín.
“As warned at the time, the 2022-2 season started late in late November; which, as was to be expected, complicated the fishing tasks. And it is that the experienced of the sector know that fishing in November is not the same as in January due to factors related to sea temperature, waves, spawning, among others, ”he said.
To this he added that “while between November and mid-December the sea presented cold conditions – which is favorable for anchovy fishing – in January it changed to neutral and warm conditions, which severely affected fishing activity.”
