Within the framework of the commemoration of the month of the Environment, ANCAP participated in the first edition of the Sustainable Uruguay Expo which took place from June 10 to 12 at the Montevideo Municipal Velodrome, organized by the Ministry of the Environment (MIEM).
In this framework, the company announced a top priority plan in environmental actions and the president of the entity, Alejandro Stipanicic, announced that for the first time they recognize an environmental liability of USD 44 million in their balance sheets, “which reflects a genuine commitment to improve the situation”.
«There are nine recommendations and 21 specific actions in an authorship plan worked from the audit. That the board of directors of ANCAP entrusted them, that they worked with the environmental technicians, that they came up with a plan, and that plan is valued. There are 44 million dollars that we have to invest in the coming years, “said Stipanicic.
According to what was reported by the most extensive task will be the remediation of soils in the La Teja refinery that will take 10 years. It will be done “to prepare it for a transformation when in 2050 Uruguay stops refining oil, according to the government’s aspirational scenario,” he said.
On the other hand, he referred to the financial effort made by the entity to contain the international rise in crude oil. The refining task makes it possible to reduce costs and not transfer all of the increases to the population.
“We are extracting the maximum possible juice from the refinery, it has maximum utilization. We are really at a very good level of operation », which allows « capturing the value of the market », he added. He in turn remarked that “the more we refine, the more we earn.”
