Analysts agree that the dismissal of Sandra Quiñónez will only be the first step in reorganizing Justice.
Fernando Silva Facetti, national senator for the PLRA, also elaborated on this issue. He stated that former president Horacio Cartes should get away from politics. Because, otherwise, rather than the Department of State, the next to speak will be the Department of Justice of the United States.
“The message is basically that Cartes stop doing politics and sell his tobacco company. In a nutshell they are telling you that. Nor does it mean that the cigarette business is going to end, but rather that other actors are going to take advantage of the gap that will exist”, she commented.
He stressed with this that if Cartes does not heed the recommendations, an extradition request will possibly come against him.
ANALYSTS
Rocio Duarte
political scientist
“The management of the Prosecutor’s Office is covered by a cloak of incompetence.”
Rocío Duarte, political scientist, pointed out that the political trial is within the expectations of what was seen to come. She described as surprising the liberation of votes from the Llanistas, who generally tend to vote en bloc in favor of Chartism.
“The management of the Judiciary and the Prosecutor’s Office has always been covered by a mantle of incompetence. This incompetence is explained as a competition for negligence. To, decidedly not address issues that have to do with the administration of justice, “he said.
The analyst pointed out that with drug trafficking, the citizenry is much more affected and the fight is much bloodier than it used to be.
“In recent times it has acquired a lethal dimension,” he concluded.
Beloved Florentin
PLRA national senator
“The United States gave a similar position to the line of thought of the people.”
Amado Florentín, national senator for the PLRA, bench “B”, expressed that there is a growth in terms of the votes to approve the dismissal of Sandra Quiñónez, if we compare with past periods. Since, in the first two attempts, the rejection prospered comfortably.
“There was always talk in Paraguay about the dismissal of Sandra Quiñónez. She was always in the debate and what the United States did is give a similar position to the line of thought of the people, ”she commented.
He argued that the Prosecutor’s Office as an institution is degraded by the lack of trust in the person of Sandra Quiñónez. And the best thing you could do is give up.
“If she is not dismissed, this is not going to be resolved. This debate is going to go on for a while,” she commented.
Pilar Callizo
master in politics and management
“For me there is no intervention or meddling by the United States.”
Pilar Callizo, a master’s degree in politics and management, affirmed for her part that the statements given by the United States Department of State are not desirable. This, in the sense that another country has to rule on internal issues of a country.
“In reality, what the United States is doing is expressing a determination as a country to give or not a visa to someone from another country. For me there is no intervention. Due to this situation, a political trial is requested against the attorney general due to the lack of having promoted the processes in relation to the Cartes businesses, ”she commented.
The analyst stressed that civil society groups and political groups have been denouncing it for a long time.
Christian Bianciotto
journalist and director of Oviedo Press
“It is a pity that it was necessary to wait for a declaration from another country.”
Cristian Bianciotto, a political journalist and director of Oviedo Press, pointed out that it is being shown that impunity has an expiration date. Since, as a consequence of what the United States did when designating Horacio Cartes as “significantly corrupt”, it is having its impact in Paraguay.
“It’s a shame that we had to wait for this. The moment always comes so that in politics and in society things can be accommodated to what corresponds, they cannot always be crooked even if they try to normalize it, ”he said.
He pointed out that the prosecution under Quiñonez is a problem for the country. And not only in relation to Horacio Cartes but also it has already been shown that they are functional to economic power, as in the case of González Daher.
Luis Fleitas-Vega
energy expert
“Regardless of whether or not the votes are obtained, we are still winning.”
Eng. Luis Fleitas Vega, an energy expert, pointed out that the declaration of the United States represents a turning point in the country’s political history. He remembered the fall of Stroessner, another the death of Argaña and also the death of Rodrigo Quintana.
“I believe that regardless of whether or not the votes are obtained, we are still winning. Because if they don’t have the votes and they go unpunished, that’s going to be another list of significantly corrupt people and she could be there, “she warned.
He stressed that when the Americans release information it is because they have all the data. Or, to define the extradition request for Horacio Cartes.
“If the votes are not obtained and Sandra Quiñónez comes out unscathed, that will cause the list of those significantly corrupt to keep coming back,” he commented.
Hugo Richer
national senator
“It is part of the incoherence and hypocrisy of the Colorados.”
Hugo Richer, national senator for the Guasu Front, pointed out that the United States always had an influence on the politics of other countries.
“We have always spoken and criticized. It happens on all continents. Always in Paraguay there has been an incidence. Before we were attacked for questioning. But now our critics denounce an interventionist policy”, he commented.
He argued that the Colorados always applauded these interventionist policies but now that it affects one of the sectors of the ANR, they complain.
“This is yet another crisis. Horacio Cartes was also supported by the US government for the parliamentary coup against Fernando Lugo, but it is part of the incoherence and hypocrisy”, he concluded.
Victor Raul Benitez
Political analyst
“The Colorados condemn themselves, they do not deny the accusations”
Víctor Raúl Benítez, a political analyst, said that those who promote the political trial accuse Quiñónez of complicity in favor of Horacio Cartes. And those who defend it instead of denying it, affirm that the accusations are only to attack the former president. For the analyst, this shows that the accusations are true and that the state attorney general should be removed.
“They condemn themselves. It is confirmed that Quiñónez is close to the former president. ‘Bachi’ Núñez and Alliana maintain that the trial is against Cartes and not against the prosecutor. But what they should do is deny the accusations. What they are doing is confirming the accusations,” she commented.
Shirley Gomez
political analyst
“It is evident that the Public Ministry does not fulfill its functions.”
Shirley Gómez, a political analyst, expressed that the declarations of the United States change all the expectations that existed around the elections.
“This really moves the board and changes the landscape of the Colorado internal elections. But this also happens in the Latin American context. It is important to know it to hope that you can come to Paraguay”, he commented.
For the analyst, the attorney general should be dismissed because legal certainty is very important for the country.
“It is evident that it does not fulfill its functions. There are other cases as well, such as that related to the prosecutor Marcelo Pecci, for not having protected him enough, also for accusing people when he carried out protests and other reasons, “he said.
