Analyst questions the new Chancellor

Cecilia Vuyk, political scientist and energy expert, questioned that Julio César Arriola, the new national Foreign Minister, in his first statements, implied that the Government will continue to bow its head and delay its actions in relation to the Itaipu Treaty. For its part, Brazil advances in the lowering of the rate, the collection of illegal debt and the control of Paraguayan energy.

“We cannot allow this to continue like this. A Paraguayan strategy in defense of national interests is urgent. Faced with a government that continues to deliver Itaipu with its silence and omission, citizenship is the only guarantee of sovereignty”, he stated.

Arriola is the fifth Foreign Minister of Mario Abdo’s government in just 4 years. Two of them were linked to the Itaipu secret agreement of May 2019. They are Luis Castiglioni and Federico González.
