In the statement of reasons for the project it is read that the current mayors will not be able to complete all the planned projects if the mandate is only four years.
Marcelo Duarte, a constitutional lawyer and candidate for senator for the PPQ, affirmed that the current mandate of the municipal authorities was established for a certain time and that the legal act materialized with the election of authorities.
“The election was for 4 years. The people voted for them for four years, so they cannot ask for 4 and a half, five or seven. As good as the arguments are, they cannot stretch to five since tomorrow, with the precedent they will leave, they can stretch up to 10. The analyst argued that if the law is enacted it will represent a legal nullity and a political aberration. The document has now passed to the Executive who must promulgate or veto the initiative.
