Anahí Arizmendi: TSJ ruling is a tool against irresponsible communication

The president of the Autonomous Institute National Council for the Rights of Children and Adolescents (Idenna), Anahí Arizmendi, assured that the Supreme Court of Justice, TSJ, set a new legal precedent, by issuing the ruling that obligates the network company social Tik Tok, to assume responsibilities regarding the issue of viral challenges that have affected the psyche, and even the physical integrity, of children and adolescents, while considering it as a new tool for society organized.

“This protection provides us with new tools to denounce the use of irresponsible communication by large digital consortia, so today the community, the community councils, the associations of different social movements, we once again have one more tool to carry out the social oversight, denunciation, and the pedagogical debate necessary so that children, adolescents do not continue to be victims of algorithms, or of the irresponsible policies of the large digital consortiums, which in the world are “They profit from all these types of acts, and actions that unfortunately cause families in Venezuela to mourn,” he said after the country’s highest court issued a ruling that fined the aforementioned social network $10 million.

Likewise, he highlighted that with such a decision “it establishes concrete commitments towards the largest digital companies in the world, in this case Tik Tok” for which a fine of 10 million dollars was established, which “means then that the Venezuelan justice “It is done in relation to the victims and the affected families.”

Likewise, he celebrated that the decision orders that a Tik Tok office be established in the country, “where one can claim and this -Tik Tok- of the face.”

For his part, the Minister for Education, Héctor Rodríguez, when consulted by the media about the TSJ ruling, stressed the need to urge parents and representatives, as well as communities in general, to remain alert to the contents that their children and clients consume from social networks.

Likewise, he recalled that more than 800 young Venezuelans were affected by the viral challenges “and we have the obligation as a society, as a State, as a country to unite to defend the youth, that is why we salute from the Bolivarian government, from the Ministry of education, it is a historic decision that the Constitutional Chamber of the Supreme Court of Justice has made, and we invite that this does not stop here, it is a task that all of Venezuelan society has,” he said.

It is important to highlight that both officials are part of the multidisciplinary team that contributed to informing the Constitutional Chamber of the TSJ on the effects of viral challenges on the behavior of children and adolescents.

As will be remembered, last November the Bolivarian Family Movement Aristóbulo Istúriz filed an appeal for protection before the TSJ, in rejection of the viral challenges of the social network TikTok, which also supports the request made, at that time, by the president of the Republic, Nicolás Maduro, to the aforementioned social network to remove publications linked to the viral challenges from the country, and today the TSJ issued a ruling that protects children and adolescents from country against irresponsibility and violence on social networks, among other aspects.
