Ana Margarita Vijil never felt alone in “El Chipote”: “Her prayers were with me”

Ana Margarita Vijil, one of the 222 political prisoners exiled from Nicaragua, thanked all those who prayed for her while she was illegally detained by the regime of Daniel Ortega and Rosario Murillo.

The former president of the Renewing Democratic Union (Unamos) assured that these prayers accompanied her in the cell of the Directorate of Judicial Assistance (DAJ), known as “El Chipote”.

«You did not want another day to go by without thanking all of you who were there, who were with me there with all my heart. The truth is that in those 606 days I was the only person in my cell, but I never felt alone,” Vijil said in a video distributed to the media.

«Their positive energies were with me, their prayers were with me, their voices of denunciation were with me and they gave me strength. I know there are many voices from my friends, friends, but also from many people I don’t know, from people who were there for me and my family,” she added.

Vijil stated that this “tremendous solidarity” “filled” her throughout the time she was in prison and is reflected in the people she has seen after her release on February 9.

“I’m still strong, I’m strong. I am going to continue fighting for the freedom of Nicaragua, I am going to continue fighting for a beautiful, free, prosperous, green country, where there are opportunities for everyone. My heart is full of affection, love, and gratitude for what you, for you that I know and do not know, have done for me and my family. Thank you,” concluded the emotional message.
