The National Assembly, in its ordinary session this Tuesday, agreed to appoint a special commission that will be in charge of investigating the complaint made by opposition deputy Carlos Melo about the existence of a parallel or ad hoc page of the Central Bank of Venezuela, through which The Venezuelan opposition abroad, led by Juan Guaidó, has carried out numerous illegal operations in the name of the Republic, even financing opposition political figures and organizations, thereby causing serious patrimonial damage to the nation.
The parliamentarian denounced that many of the people who benefited from the illegal action are currently in Venezuelan territory.
After Carlos Melo’s complaint, the president of the National Assembly, Jorge Rodríguez, stressed that the State institutions have always acted against “those criminals, maulas who put their hands into the public treasury for their private assets”, consequently, he announced the reactivation of the Special Commission to Investigate Crimes against the Citgo Company, led by the first vice president of the Legislative Branch, Pedro Infante, to immediately devote itself to the investigation of these complaints and incorporate deputy Carlos Melo.
This complaint was previously exposed by the opposition deputy Luis Eduardo Martínez in an interview through La Iguana TV, in which he stated that the ad hoc board of the parallel Central Bank of Venezuela, created under the façade of the supposed interim government of the right, led by Juan Guaidó, manages a sum of 2,976 million dollars.
Martínez assured that “I have just seen the financial statements that they themselves published on the website and that were signed by the five directors, some of whom are here. Don’t you think those millions would help solve many of the problems in Venezuela?
On the other hand, he asserted in relation to the national dialogue that “the way out is to understand each other, is to work together, is to be willing to move the country forward. For that, a lot of dialogue, a lot of consensus, a lot of understanding is needed.”
In the session, an agreement was also approved in Commemoration of the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women.
Representative María Rosa Jiménez highlighted that since Commander Hugo Chávez came to power, women have been recognized, made visible and vindicated as an important actor in the development of the country.
Furthermore, the Venezuelan State, in compliance with signed agreements, has developed policies to sanction and condemn all forms of violence with the support of social movements.
Tax law for Caracas
The National Assembly approved in its session this Tuesday in first discussion the Law of the Tax System and Royalties of the Capital District.
Representative Isbelia Malavé, in charge of presenting the project, commented that due to extraordinary political situations in recent years this legal instrument had been left behind, and it was necessary to put it into effect to optimize the tax revenues of the capital entity, given its strategic importance for the country.
Malavé noted that in 2023 the Law on Coordination and Harmonization of the Tax Powers of States and Municipalities was approved, which establishes the framework for the unification of criteria around collection.
