After the president of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela, Nicolás Maduro, asked the National Assembly (AN) to review and update the laws of People’s Power, he began the process in parliament to guarantee the effectiveness of the instrument for the people.
This was reported by the president of the Commission for the Development of the Communes of the AN, Blanca Eekhout, in an interview during the 360º program broadcast by Venezolana de Televisión, where she explained that the legal instrument is intended to be easy and effective at the time to apply it.
He explained that there are 12 laws that govern Popular Power, of which the Law of Communal Cities and the Law of the Communal Parliament, were approved in the first discussion in 2021 and went to the second discussion, which are still under debate.
The deputy stated that the Law of the Communal Councils is the first of the laws of the People’s Power that they are already reviewing, consulted “and is ready to go to that first discussion, to go out to a great consultation with the people’s power.”
Eekhout assured that one of the fundamental elements of updating the laws is the simplification and de-bureaucratization of the methodologies and commented that the electoral processes have effective support and technology for their transparency.
In the same way, he highlighted the importance of the Citizen Assembly as a binding entity for decision-making, “so that the leading role of the people is present.”
