A 71-year-old man died in Chitré after presenting Cardiopulmonary Syndrome due to Hantavirus. This is the first death recorded this year due to the disease.
In the province of Herrera, two cases of Hantavirus have been registered so far in 2023, and according to the Ministry of Health (Minsa) before the arrival of the carnival festivities, they will intensify their surveillance operations with a view to detecting, preventing and counter vector diseases.
The Minsa indicated that the deceased resides in the district of Chitré, corregimiento of San Juan Bautista.
According to the preliminary report, the patient presented symptoms such as diarrhea, fever, weakness and disorientation and was treated in the Emergency Room of the Gustavo Nelson Collado de Chitré hospital, since he also presented respiratory distress, for which he was admitted to the Care Unit. Intensive care, where he died within 24 hours of hospitalization.
The authorities are also investigating a 27-year-old female patient, from the township of Pesé header, Pesé district, who is being evaluated on suspicion of hantavirus, whose sample has already been taken and confirmatory results are awaited.
They asked the public in general that in case of presenting symptoms such as high fever, muscle aches, cough, stomach upset, headache and shortness of breath, go immediately to a health facility, since it can quickly become a more serious illness. .
