AN of 2020 celebrates the reopening of the border with Colombia

AN defers second discussion of the reform to the Insurance Activity Law

During the session of this September 29, the AN of 2020 celebrated the International Day of Sign Language, decreed by the United Nations Organization, on September 23, 2018. An agreement was also approved to raise awareness about the historical importance of the resistance and performance of older adult women in the country


The first vice president of the AN, Iris Varela, celebrated that the president of Colombia, Gustavo Petro, “honors” his electoral promises. She said this during the discussion of an agreement to celebrate the reopening of the Colombian-Venezuelan border, which took place on September 26.

He pointed out that the deputies are witnesses of how the majority of the AN of seven years ago turned Parliament into a “trench to attack the country.”

He boasted that the ability of the ruler, Nicolás Maduro Moros, to “achieve together with Petro”, the opening of the border. He said that it is a new opportunity to develop the area and advance in the commercial issue.

He specified that the passage of private vehicles through the Simón Bolívar International Bridge has not yet been restored, but that of cargo and pedestrian. In this regard, he expressed his aspiration for mutual benefit because Petro and Maduro have put their best efforts to make this a reality.

AN celebrates sign language day

The AN of 2020 celebrated the International Day of Sign Language, decreed by the United Nations Organization, on September 23, 2018. Deputy Aníbal René Coltat, from the ruling party, through an information point and with the help of an interpreter of signs, explained that the celebration of this date has the purpose of supporting and protecting the linguistic identity and cultural diversity of all people in the world with hearing disabilities and those who use sign language.

The parliamentarian highlighted that there are 70 million people with hearing disabilities around the planet, according to the United Nations Organization (UN). “Right now all of you hear, you have access to information. As a deaf person and as a deputy, I am proud to be here with you”, said deputy Coltat.

He stressed that AN sanctioned the Law of Public Interpreters on May 17, and that the State has recognized in article 81 of the Constitution of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela the use of sign language for deaf people, thanks to Commander Hugo Chávez, who included in the Magna Carta different areas that protect people with disabilities.

AN approves agreement for older adults

To commemorate the International Day of Adults and Older Adults, the Plenary approved an agreement by qualified majority in which it invites the community and social movements to meet in October to, among other matters, raise awareness about the historical importance of the resistance and performance of older adult women in the country.
