Carlos Torrealba, a mechanic at the “Arbe Multiservices” workshop located in Barquisimeto, Lara state, suffered third-degree burns after a fire occurred in that establishment on the morning of this Tuesday, June 7.
Torrealba, 43 years old, was the only one injured during the incident on Venezuela Avenue with Urdaneta and Pedro León Torres streets. He was immediately treated by officials from the Fire Department of the Iribarren Municipality (Barquisimeto).
It was learned that the mechanic received emergency medical attention at a health center for the burns on his forearms.
The extinguishing procedure required the use of 40,000 liters of water to suffocate flames that reached part of the workshop structure and completely burned five vehicles.
Meanwhile, the Water Supply team of the Mayor’s Office of the Iribarren Municipality and the Lara state government, were also activated to provide the necessary support during the fire, according to an institutional note.
Investigate the cause of the fire
Luis Mujica, state director of Civil Protection and Disaster Administration (Pcad), reported that the expertise and investigations of the causes of the fire are in the hands of the local Fire Department.
Likewise, he indicated that it was necessary to cordon off the area and prevent vehicular and pedestrian access as a preventive and comprehensive security measure for citizens and officials who were carrying out rescue work.
Therefore, they deployed a security device with the participation of soldiers from the Bolivarian National Police (PNB) and the National Guard.
“The causes are yet to be determined by the Department of the Fire Department, the security device is maintained to cool the area that was affected by the flames and a fence is maintained on the perimeter,” Mujica said.
