Park rangers from the Ministry of the Environment and the Environmental Police stopped a boat that was carrying out illegal artisanal fishing without authorization 1,600 meters from the mangroves of Santa Cruz, an area that is within the Marine Reserve Zone of the Coiba National Park.
The vessel remains detained and the fishing equipment has been confiscated while the administrative process begins.
It is important to note that the area where the activity was carried out is part of the marine reserve zone where the extraction of any type of resources is prohibited.
They called on fishermen to carry out fishing activities in permitted areas; we are patrolling to enforce the law.
