A total of 59 people died this Monday due to an explosion in an artisanal mining operation in the department of Gbomblora, province of Poni, located in the southwest of Burkina Fasoreported the DPA news agency.
According to sources from the regional authority, the latest balance is 59 dead, many injured and significant material damage.
Most of the injured were transferred to a hospital in Gaoua, about 15 kilometers from the scene of the incident, so the authorities recognized that the hospital’s emergency room was overwhelmed.
Local administrative authorities, including the high committee of Poni province, traveled to the area of this West African country where the events took place.
