Havana/The residents of Camajuaní, in Villa Clara, have woken up startled by a strong explosion in the center of the municipality. Details about the situation are still unknown, but the origin is in the work house in the Teresa-Los Chivos neighborhood, which would have – according to the testimony of several residents of the area – stored pyrotechnics, possibly for use in parties.

According to Cuban News Agency journalist Henry Omar Pérez, the explosion caused a fire that reached neighboring homes but has now been extinguished and there are no known fatalities. “I live here and the explosion was so big that it got everyone out of bed,” say the residents, who wonder how such an act of recklessness could have been committed in the heart of the municipality.

“Party only brings accidents and misfortune, they should be banned in all provinces, they never bring anything good,” said a user in a buying and selling group in Camajuaní. “The party can be celebrated with parade floats. Prohibit flyers, gunpowder only brings misfortune,” agreed another.

Local and provincial authorities have traveled to the area along with emergency teams and the official press, which promises to expand the news.
