The vigil that began on Friday night in commemoration of the 40th anniversary of the start of the Falklands War in Córdoba had very emotional overtones, with the renaming of the now ‘Plaza de la Intendencia Héroes de Malvinas’, the recognition of veterans and musical numbers.
Malvinas Week began in the city with activities at different points, tributes to local “heroes”, photographic exhibitions and illumination of different historic buildings with the colors “light blue and white” and legends about the South Atlantic islands.
Among these recognitions, the Province highlighted the performance of Stella Botta, Mónica Rosa and Stella Morales (from Villa María), Mirta Rodríguez and Sonia Escudero (Capital) and Esther Moreno (Capilla del Monte), military nurses who treated the wounded in the Relocatable Hospital located in Comodoro Rivadavia.
The central act that took place on Friday night in the brand new Plaza de la Intendencia Héroes de Malvinas, in front of the Municipality and Courts building, on the banks of La Cañada, where authorities -along with veterans- discovered the poster with the new name of the green space, a place very popular every day by the neighbors.
The emotion of the ‘heroes’ was accompanied by the presence of Mayor Martín Llaryora and Deputy Governor Manuel Calvo.
Then, on a large stage set up on Calle Caseros, the musical numbers arrived with the presence of Nico Villa and Patricia Sosa, who made several hearts tremble with their chords and lyrics for the occasion.
“It is an emotional night, to pay tribute to our heroes and reaffirm that the Malvinas are Argentine,” Mayor Llaryora stressed, coinciding with Lieutenant Governor Calvo, who said: “We will continue to recognize our ex-combatants and we will continue to say that the Malvinas are Argentine forever.” “.
The activities continued this Saturday with the hoisting of the National Pavilion by veterans and members of the Armed Forces, in the Plaza de la Intendencia Héroes de Malvinas.
Governor Juan Schiaretti arrived at the scene and told the media: “Beyond the fact that the war was a senseless adventure of the genocidal dictatorship, our people went to give their lives for the country. We have to give them the tribute they deserve. The Malvinas were are and will be Argentine”.
Meanwhile, a motorcycle caravan will leave from the Kempes Park heading for the same central square.
After noon there will be a family locro and live musical shows to commemorate the date, with the participation of Silvia Lallana, Los Guaraníes, Los 4 de Córdoba and the Police band of the province of Córdoba.
Finally, this Saturday night at the Teatro Real, the premiere of the work from Cordoba “Malvinas, 74 dias” will be held, by the stable cast of the theater.
This Saturday and Sunday at 8 pm another tribute can be seen in the capital, with a projection on the facade of the Cabildo, where there will be a space for reflection, commemorating 40 years of war.
