An earthquake of magnitude 4.3 on the Richter scale, with an epicenter in the state of Mérida (west), shook that Andean area and some nearby states this Saturday without any damage being reported so far, reported the Venezuelan Research Foundation. Seismological (Funvisis).
On its Twitter account, Funvisis explained that it was a “felt earthquake” that occurred at 3:10 local time (7:10 GMT), 14 kilometers north of the Tovar municipality, an alpine town in Mérida.
The epicenter of the tremor had a depth of 5 kilometers and, because it was a “felt earthquake”, Funvisis has called the population, through social networks, to report the intensity with which they perceived this telluric movement “for the reduction of vulnerability”.
The institution reported this morning three other smaller-scale earthquakes that were “not felt”, with epicenters in the state of Zulia (border with Colombia) and Sucre (east), where the last perceived tremor of 4.9 occurred, the last July 14.
The Venezuelan government announced at the end of July that it is working on a relaunch of Funvisis with which it intends to activate 40 stations for seismic detection throughout the country.
In Venezuela, there have been no earthquakes of great magnitude since August 21, 2018, when there was an earthquake of magnitude 6.9 with an epicenter in the southeast of Yaguarapano, in the east of the country, which left damage to some buildings in Caracas. and other states in the east of the country.
