AN delivers the Asset Forfeiture Law to the Executive for its promulgation

The president of the National Assembly (AN), Jorge Rodríguez Gómez, delivered the recently approved Organic Law of Asset Forfeiture to the President of the Republic, Nicolás Maduro, which will allow him to take actions on assets that come from criminal acts such as corruption.

In a solemn act held this Friday from the Miraflores Palace, the head of the AN explained that wrote a project “very complete” of 48 articles in principle, “which includes the elements related to the guarantees of the people subject to this law, which includes the procedures for the extinction of the domain and, in addition to that, the importance that this law has, is that it was given an organic character”.

Earlier, the Supreme Court of Justice declared the constitutional and organic nature of the legal instrument, considering that “it conforms to the legal characteristics of organic laws, in terms of their form and content.”

During his speech, Rodríguez highlighted the process of “fertile consultation” that preceded the approval, in which “prosecutors, judges, representatives of the Community Councils” were involved, as well as the more than 128 proposals submitted for the second discussion.

“This law that we are delivering after that consultation consists of 46 articles, two transitory provisions and a final provision,” he specified.

Hit the mafias

For his part, the head of state thanked the parliamentary urgency with which they worked on the rule, and stressed that this will be the first law to “hit the corrupt mafias very hard that have tried to position themselves on the stage of national life.”

He reiterated his government’s willingness to “go all out in the fight against banditry, the bad guys, the corrupt, wherever they are and whoever they are. This is a reality confirmed by the actions we have taken.”

The national president explained that 1,007 assets have been insured in the anti-corruption operation “Caiga quien caiga”, and that they are valued at “several million dollars.”

To date, 6 buildings have been secured, 38 luxury apartments, 28 mansion houses, 16 gigantic offices, 4 land in urban areas, 6 companies, an inn, a club, 13 business complexes with large warehouses and materials; 4 farms, 361 high-end vehicles, 52 new trucks, 9 motorcycles, 9 buses, 23 heavy machinery, 19 first-class aircraft, 7 boats and a group of weapons.

“Who should those goods go to? For the people of Venezuela, for public services (…) to meet the needs of the people,” he emphasized.

Maduro asked the police agencies that carry out the procedures against the scourge to do “everything they have to do within the framework of the Constitution and the laws” to “get all the money that these people stole.”
