The National Assembly (AN) approved on Tuesday the request of the Russian Embassy in Venezuela, to confer the “Order of Friendship” decoration on the Minister for Foreign Affairs, Carlos Faría.
The deputy Ilenia Medina expressed that Faría stands out for his work that allowed to increase the relations of friendship and cooperation between Russia and Venezuelabeing Bolivarian ambassador in Moscow.
“This request is not just anything, because when a country considers that a foreign citizen, who has contributed extraordinarily to peace and friendship between two nations, should be a source of national pride,” he said.
He added that the legislative body understands that this is not only a recognition of the foreign minister, but also of the people who have resisted so many years of external harassment, considering that the ambassadors are representatives of the president of the Republic and all Venezuelans, AVN reports.
Likewise, he stressed that Faría has worked in accordance with the interests of the people and has worked in accordance with the guidelines of the Republic PresidentNicholas Maduro.
The Order of Friendship is a distinction created in 1994 for diplomatic officials. It has been awarded to several representatives of Latin American countries from Cuba, Brazil and even from North America such as the United States.
Faría served as Russian ambassador for five years, and since last May he has served as Venezuela’s foreign minister.
