AN approves the Organic Law of Domain Forfeiture

The National Assembly (AN) of Venezuela unanimously approved this Thursday the project of the Organic Law of Asset Forfeiture, which will expedite the disposal of assets from illegal acts for the use of the needs of citizens.

After discussion of some items to correct and expand concepts, the deputies of the Venezuelan parliament gave the go-ahead to the legal instrument.

“I feel very happy to declare the Organic Law of Asset Forfeiture sanctioned”, celebrated the president of the AN, Jorge Rodríguez Gómez.

The head of the Legislative branch congratulated the Parliament’s Permanent Commission on Domestic Policy, headed by Deputy Diosdado Cabello, for its “clear, pristine, firm manner; managing with a criterion of urgency and speed in the drafting and consultation process ”of the new law, which he considered “very important in the fight against corruption in Venezuela ”.

The congratulations were also extended to the legislators who “regardless of their political ideology (…) worked together to approve this law with the speed that the case warranted,” Rodríguez highlighted.

Special Commission

After the praise, the president of the AN announced a Special Commission made up of deputies from the Internal Policy, Comptrollership and Economy commissions to review the Venezuelan legal framework on corruption.

Rodríguez asked this commission, which will be chaired by Diosdado Cabello, the same “speed” in the revision of the laws, “to make them more energetic and efficient in the fulfillment of their work.”

The objective, continued the head of the AN, is to avoid that “impunity is not the currency of use by the corrupt (…) by people belonging to the private sector who are also corrupt.”
