The National Assembly (AN) approved in the first discussion the repeal of the Law Approving the Rome Statute of the International Criminal Court (ICC), presented by deputy Roy Daza before Parliament. The proposal seeks to move towards a second discussion for the defense of national sovereignty.
During his intervention, Daza pointed out that the International Criminal Court has been transformed into an institution that acts for purposes other than those that motivated its creation and that is currently instrumentalized by de facto, economic, political and cultural powers of imperialism. “We know that this Court has become an institution with purposes other than those that motivated its creation. It was conceived with a different purpose, but now it pursues other objectives, instrumentalized by the de facto powers of imperialism.”
Likewise, he noted that “today the Court intends to introduce a tool of aggression against the country. In addition to these actions, they seek to supplant Venezuelan legislation with international laws. That is what they want, but this Court is not going to supplant any law, because we are a sovereign and independent country,” said Deputy Daza.
Likewise, he stated that: “And the children of Gaza? Why is the crime of genocide committed there, one of the most atrocious of humanity, not condemned? It is forgotten that this organization has already received complaints about the economic blockade and coercive measures, but that is not analyzed, it is left aside. Given this biased position, we are proposing in this Assembly the repeal of this document.”
It should be noted that days ago the Government of Venezuela rejected the statements of the Deputy Prosecutor of the International Criminal Court, Mame Mandiaye Niang; During the Assembly of States Parties to the Rome Statute, it was stated that this body justifies the aggressions of colonialism against the country, while the Court ignores the genocide perpetrated by Israel against Palestine.
