AN approves agreement to commemorate National Youth Day

This Thursday, the National Assembly (AN) unanimously approvedthe draft agreement to commemorate the 209th anniversary of the Battle of La Victoria and National Youth Day, which will be held next Sunday.

The project was presented by the deputy for the United Socialist Party of Venezuela (PSUV), Grecia Colmenares, who highlighted the historic deed of José Félix Ribas on February 12, 1814 and that, after 209 years, his flags of freedom are still valid, in the revolutionary youth.

«The generation of a century later had to fight for the dignity of Venezuelans, fight with law like that of bad guys and thugs that oppressed the Venezuelan youth who could not develop and think about the future. Faced with this, a generation led by Commander (Hugo) Chávez rose up, who went to all places to make revolution to offer hope and a future to this generation,” Colmenares said in the AN session.

The young will not be silenced

In his speech before the plenary, he pointed out that, despite the battles, at this time the Venezuelan youth has participation in all the political spaces of the country, demonstrating – once again – that this sector “will never again be silenced.”

“It is up to this generation of today to free up a time that seeks to segregate us,” he said, for which he called on the youth to seek common ground with all sectors, for the construction of the homeland.

In this regard, he recalled that, among the points of the debate, is the recent installation of the Youth Parliamentary Group, which aims at the debate to find solutions to deal with coercive measures.

“In this homeland, the vast majority (of young people) who remain, we wait for you with open arms to build that prosperous country that we deserve,” he concluded.

The agreement aims to create spaces for youth debate and dialogue, without political or ethnic ideology distinction, and to build a common vision that responds to the needs and questions that Venezuelan youth are experiencing today.

Mobilization this Sunday on Youth Day

On the other hand, Colmenares urged everyone to participate in the mobilization that will take place this Sunday, to commemorate National Youth Day.

“We are called to continue building that country with dreams of a giant. This Sunday the Venezuelan youth will take to the streets to march to expose our potential as young people and the benefits that the Bolivarian Revolution has given us, and to continue denouncing the blockade and coercive laws”, he declared.

Student leaders, cultural leaders, entrepreneurs, environmentalists, technicians, scientists, as well as high school and high school students were present at this Thursday’s session to accompany the deputies in paying tribute to Venezuelan youth.

Once the agreement is approved, before closing the session, the president of Parliament, deputy Jorge Rodriguezdelivered the draft Agreement in commemoration of the 209th Anniversary of the Battle of Victoria and National Youth Day to student leaders, whom he called heirs to the glory of the martyrs of the Battle of La Victoria.
