In the ordinary session this Tuesday, the National Assembly (AN) approved an agreement in Commemoration of the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women.
Representative María Rosa Jiménez highlighted that since Commander Hugo Chávez came to power, women have been recognized, made visible and vindicated as an important actor in the development of the country.
Furthermore, the Venezuelan State, in compliance with signed agreements, has developed policies to sanction and condemn all forms of violence with the support of social movements.
In the document, they agree to “commemorate the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women as a way to reflect on the true fight against this scourge that does so much damage to our societies, as well as defend and promote the rights of women to a life free of violence.”
Likewise, “guarantee that the laws emanating from this National Assembly regarding the protection of women are applied effectively throughout the national territory, making the necessary links with the rest of the Public Powers.”
On the other hand, “promote and participate in information campaigns through the media and social networks that educate citizens on the prevention of behaviors that lead to any form of violence against women, replicating sexist cultural patterns that affect the family”.
