The National Assembly (AN) approved on Tuesday the appointment of Daniel Augusto Ramírez Herrera as the new Public Defender after evaluating various proposals for months
“This position, this responsibility that the public defender acquires is essential in the preservation and defense of human rights,” said the President of Parliament, Jorge Rodríguez.
He highlighted the role of the Judicial Nominations Commission, which carried out the election of the candidates for the appointment of the new defender, as part of the innovative processes that have been implemented.
“This is part of the process of judicial revolution that the national government has proposed in depth to seek a profound transformation of the judicial system in Venezuela,” he said.
Rodríguez stressed that during the review and interview process, the honesty and defense of the ethics of the lawyer Daniel Augusto Ramírez Herrera was verified to assume the position of national public defender.
“This process of judicial revolution is going deep. This position and responsibility acquired by the public defender who is sworn in and approved before the AN is fundamental in the preservation and defense of human rights, as well as the right to due process of each Venezuelan, “he said.
Who is the new public defender
Daniel Augusto Ramírez Herrera has a doctorate in Constitutional Law, a master’s degree and a specialist in Criminal Law, and a lawyer who graduated from Universidad Santa María.
He has served as general coordinator of the Public Defense during the periods 2005-2010 and 2019 to the present, according to information from the Public Defense.
During his management in Public Defense, he promoted plans and projects aimed at strengthening and promoting, at the national level, the quality service provided by the institution, achieving important advances for the benefit of the Venezuelan population.
