A large number of employees of the social network Twitter presented his resignation in the last hours due to the hardening of working conditions that its recent buyer, the tycoon Elon Musk, has proposed; which can jeopardize the operation of the platform.
Musk, CEO and founder of Tesla and SpaceX, acquired -after months of comings and goings- Twitter for US$ 44,000 million at the end of October.
After banning remote work and announcing a round of layoffs, which reached almost half of the 7,500 employees of the social network, the tycoon – now CEO of the company – sent an email to employees warning them that the work culture will toughen.
“Going forward, to build a disruptive Twitter 2.0 and succeed in an increasingly competitive world, we will have to be extremely tough. This means working long hours at high intensity”points out the internal memo sent by Musk and released by the Bloomberg agency.
The email consists of an attached Google Forms: employees had to click “yes” if they decided to accept Musk’s proposal or, otherwise, if they did not respond before the deadline – stipulated for Thursday at 17 local time- they were to be laid off with three months’ notice.
According to sources inside the company, a large number of employees refused to sign Musk’s requestrenouncing, therefore, the signature.
Resignations have been higher than expected to such an extent that it can jeopardize the operation of Twitter itself, especially in the ability to correct problems or update the critical systems that are the basis for the operation of the social network.
As a result of the details in the company, The social network was overwhelmed with messages from users speculating on a possible closure of the platform using the hashtag #RIPTwitter.
